Suta sighed and walked into the American classroom. When he walked into his new homeroom his teacher actually made him introduce himself... well he tried. "Eto... Watshi no namae wa Suta des. Eto... in Ego, eto... I name Suta." he said then blushed as he realized he totals said it wrong. He didn't know much English but he was in E.L.L. to try to learn. He sighed and looked at his teacher confused as she tried to tell him where to sit. Finally she gave up and had him fallow her to the only empty desk. He slid down into the desk and looked at the board, he could read the romanjii letters but he had no clue what the words said. Paper was passed back, he took one and kept passing them back. He found the line that he thought he wrote his name on and wrote: スタ (his first name) on it.

Amelié, who had been buried in a book ignoring the rest of the class, looked up only briefly as the new arrival walked into the room. She considered him for a minute, and then went back to her book, although she listened as he introduced himself. Suta.... interesting name. She thought.
She glanced sideways at him as he sat down - she had been sat next to the only empty seat in the class, which was how she like it - then sighed and put her book away as the person in front passed her a stack of sheets. She took one and handed them to the person behind her, jotting her name down on the top. She stole another glance at the new boy. He looked a little miserable and, she noticed, had written his name in Japanese lettering.
"I'm pretty sure you're meant to write in English." She whispered to him. Taking a sheet of paper out of her notebook, she wrote down S U T A in easy to read letters and passed it to him while the teacher had her back turned. "Like that." She offered him a smile as an afterthought.

Suta jumped in surprise at the girl next to him as she talked to him. He didn't know exactly what he said until she passed him a piece of paper with what he thought was his name on it. He took the paper and looked at it, then very carefully he copied what she wrote down next to his name.
"Arigato... Eto... Tank Shu." he said then repeated in English. The tried to read what it said on the worksheet. Kuso, ego. he thought and sighed for like the millionth time today. He closed his eyes and wished deeply that he was home in Japan. Nihon, Watashi hazure temae He crossed his arms on his desk and layed his head on them.
((His thoughts: 'Shit, English.' 'Japan, I miss you.'))

"You're welcome," Amelié told him quietly and then went back to her own work, waiting for their teacher to turn around again. She looked across in time to see Suta lay his head on his arms. Obviously he didn't speak much English, so talking to him was no good. Telepathy it was then. She had no idea what he was - though she knew he wasn't human, the tail gave that away - but there was a chance he'd be able to hear her.
"Homesick?" She thought-asked him. "Don't worry, you'll settle in soon." She glanced down at the worksheet - if he couldn't speak English, he probably couldn't read it either. "Need some help?"

Suta jumped as he heard the girls voice in his mind, BUT he was even more surprised that he could understand her. Yes, I'm home sick. he thought to her and looked down at the worksheet. And yes... can you please help me? What does it say?
He moved over closer to the girl. Oh... by the way... what's your name? he thought-asked her.

"Thought doesn't really have a language," Amelié explained. She looked down at the sheet again and thought the questions to Suta. Well, thought wasn't the best way to describe it - it was more a case of her planting the questions in his head as though he already knew them.
"Oh... uhm, Amelié." She told him, smiling at him as she did. Apparently she'd picked up a new friend. Oh well. "Amelié Lennox. What's yours? And... if you don't mind my asking, what are you?"
On reflection, that last part sounded a bit rude. She blushed slightly - rudeness was not something she'd been raised with.

He smiled as she told him the questions. He smiled even brighter as he realised he knew most of the answers, then only thing that made his smile disappear was that he didn't know how to write down his answers. Can you help me write? Or should we ask the teacher first? he asked her.
And nice to meet you Amelié. he said and smiled back. Oh I'm Suta Martineke. And I don't mind. There are not many of my kind in America, I'm what my people -the Japanese- call a Kitsune. he informed her.

Amelie considered Suta's question. Possibly she could implant the shapes of the letters in to his head, but that would probably be quite difficult. Asking the teacher? Hmmm... that could work, but then she'd have to explain that she'd been using her telepathy again, and that wouldn't be so great. She'd been in trouble for that before - apparently it was cheating.
"I.... don't know." She said, feebly. "If you can tell me what you want to write, I could maybe write it down and you could copy it? I don't know if asking the teacher is a good idea or not..." She glanced at the teacher, who, thankfully, was oblivious to the telepathic exchange between the two.
She smiled as she heard his name - she'd heard it when he'd first come in, of course, but it was nice to be told properly. "Kitsune?" Where had she heard that before? Of course, it was a Japanese folk-tale she'd read a while ago. Fox-people. She was mildly surprised to find that they really existed, but then, she was half vampire. Who was she to be surprised at anything? "Do you have another form then? A fox?" Her eyes flashed excitedly - this boy was more interesting that he had first appeared and she was glad now that she'd chosen to talk to him.

He chuckled and waved his fox tail at her. Yes I have another form, it's a fox. To be more exact a white fox. And in my for form I have more tails. he said then looked down at his paper. if I have you tell me how to write stuff down how will I be able to explain how I know how to write in english but not speak in english? he asked.
Suta sighed and leaned back in his chair. English is so hard to learn... he said.

Amelié giggled quietly as Suta waved his tail, and the bit her lip, grinning. Wow, that's impressive. she told him sincerely. Her face fell as he raised the point about the teacher noticing he could suddenly write in English.
Oh..... good point. She pondered. We'll have to ask then, I suppose. She raised her hand silently - she could call the teacher but that would be rude. Better to wait patiently. Is it? I've never really thought about it. She told Suta truthfully while she waited for the teachers attention. I suppose I'd find Japanese hard - it's such a complex language compared to English or French. I tried once but I never managed to get further than the absolute basics, I'm afraid.
At that point, the teacher happened to glance in their direction and spot Amelié's raised hand. "Yes, Amelié?" She said in a slightly exhasperated tone. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong, miss. It's just..." she hesitates slightly, trying to think of the best way to word it. "Suta's having trouble writing in English. He knows the answers, but he doesn't know how to write them down."
The teacher raised an eyebrow and looked from Amelié to Suta. "Is that so? And how would you know that?" "Well... he told me. He looked stuck and I offered to help." She replied, knowing exactly where the conversation was headed. The teacher sighed. "Amelié Lennox, what have you been told about using telepathy in class? It's unfair to other students who can't do it." She pinched her nose and closed her eyes, clearly despairing at the girls apparent inability to listen.
"I know, I'm sorry, but... it's the only way I could talk to him! He doesn't speak much English and..." The teacher raised her other hand to stop Amelié. "Very well, as you seem to have fostered Suta, you can scribe for him. I'm going to trust you to write his answers, not yours. Is that clear, Amelié?"
"Yes, miss." Amelié said meekly, aware that the rest of the class was staring in their direction. The teacher nodded and went back to whatever teacher-y things she'd been doing before the interruption.
She says that you can tell me what you want to write and I'll write it down for you. She told Suta, aware that he probably hadn't understood the exchange.
